TIPS FOR DIGITAL POSTER OUTPUT
To ensure your posters are
output properly by us, please use the following tips when preparing your files.
Size: The maximum paper size for our color posters is 54" by 100 feet (length
may vary with media). Your finished output should not exceed 53" wide (this will
allow for .5" margin on each side). Your file should be set up proportionately to
your desired output size. We can scale up to 400%, so scale your file no less than 25%.
Though we do not have a minimum size requirement, our minimum pricing for each poster is 2
square feet, so you may want to set your document up so you can have several posters on a
page (as long as it does not exceed our paper size limitations).
Scanning: The quality of full-color scanned images on our printer is exceptional if you have scanned them in properly. There are many considerations. Hi-end drum scans have a greater dynamic range than desktop flatbed scans, and therefore will produce a much higher quality image. Photo CD images are also exceptional quality.
A good formula for scanning images is to scan them at 150-200 dpi and at the percentage
at which they will be output. For example, a 4"x5" original that will be output
at 16x20 should be scanned at 400% at about 175 dpi. Make sure you save your scans in the
same orientation as they will appear in your document - don't rotate them once you have
placed them (this makes for a much higher processing time and can cause PostScript errors
on large files). Make sure you save them as an RGB (versus CMYK) and save them as an EPS
(depending on the software application you will be using). If you scan at a higher
resolution than the above formula, your file size will be excessive, it will take longer
to print, and the quality of the print will not be any better.
Colors: Our poster printer prints in 4-color process (cyan, magenta, yellow and
black). These colors blend to create just about every printable color. When creating your
file, you may use any available color, but if you are using Pantone colors, make sure you
know the 4-color process equivalent. Some Pantone colors print slightly differently in
process than they do in spot. Remember all printers are different, so you may want to run
a test if you have a question about color matching.
Software: We can output posters from most graphics programs on the Mac or PC.
If you are using a package that we do not have, save or export your file in one of the
many supported files such as .EPS, .TIF, .JPG, .GIF.
Protecting your Poster : Our posters are output on an inkjet system. Posters output
on our 600 dpi poster printer are not waterproof, and we recommend laminating to protect
your prints from water/moisture so that the image does not run or bleed. We can laminate
on both matte or gloss laminate. Lamination is and additional $2.50 square foot.
